LIFE Taxus granted

The LIFE Committee of the European Commission has approved the proposal LIFE11 NAT/ES/711 “Improvement of Taxus baccata conservation status in north-eastern Iberian Peninsula”, led by Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia, with participation as members of the “Consorci de la Serra de Llaberia, the “Ajuntament de Rasquera” and the “Paratge Natural  d’Interès Nacional de Poblet“. The technical management of the project is the responsibility of the Group of Conservation Biology (lab BAC) and the Group Ecology and Management of Silvopastoral Systems CTFC.

The main objectives of the project are to improve the structure, resilience and ecological function of yew’s forests of Catalonia, a priority habitat for its interest of conservation by the EU, with very few samples around the continent.

The LIFE Taxus act on the most representative yew forests of Catalonia, among which the teixedes the Garrotxa, Paratge Naturals d’Interès Nacioonal de Poblet, Llaberia the mountains and mountains of Cardo and Boix during 2012 and 2014.
